With five to six cutting edges, S-9858 is a superior long life tap. Each of the cutting edges are induction hardened leaving a finish as strong as the substrate steel. S-9858 has a tapered lead which contacts the same distance from the start of the thread for each cutting edge. This removes any alignment error between cutting edges that may occur with other taps, allowing this tap to drill much cleaner holes. S-9858 is a square bottom tap giving trapped chips a place to exit reducing work hardening and increasing thread strength.
